The Robot That Watches Porn (And Why)

I’m sure that most of you know by now that Mr. Porn Geek is pretty much an expert in the world of watching porn, but did you know that there’s something capable at beating me when it comes to adult entertainment? Well, it sorta does anyway.

What I’m talking about is an open source project operated by GitHub user ryanjay0. He’s only gone and done something crazy: created a robot that can take a look at pornographic videos and, within a few seconds, give you a heap of data about that video. The project is called Miles Deep and boy, does this thing have some pretty crazy skills.

It currently works by watching the video you provide and then categorizing what’s going on at every single second to a 95% degree of accuracy. There are currently six categories of material that Miles Deep is familiar with: blowjobs/handjobs (considered the same), cunnilingus, sexual intercourse facing the model, sexual intercourse not facing the model, titty fucking and finally, ‘other’. Right now it works with two performers, but the creator of the tool has stated that he’s planning to expand the collection to a number of different categories. Whatever way this project goes, the fact that a computer can determine what’s going on in porn is incredible.

The project all runs on Caffe, which is a deep learning network that utilizes both CPU and GPU power to understand images and videos. Running on a GTX 960, a 25 minute video takes around 20 seconds to process: that’s increased a bit if it utilizes CuDNN and obviously, better cards with more processing power can get through them at a faster rate.

What’s great about Miles Deep from a porn site owner perspective is the fact that it can actually edit videos with minimal effort. It’ll cut out parts of the clip that are non-sexual or remove what you specify (if you just want to keep titty fucking, you can do that!), as well as allowing for output data that specifies times when transitions take place during a porn scene.

Now: go ahead and tell me that isn’t crazy. This robot can watch porn dozens of times quicker than I can. I guess it’s a good thing that programs can’t get horny, because this one has seen some incredible stuff!
