Doujinshi at Reddit – the Mr. Porn Geek analysis

For those who aren’t too familiar with the term, doujinshi is a phrase from Japan used to describe a particular style of self-published hentai – that which hasn’t been produced by large studios. There’s a huge culture surrounding doujinshi and a passionate following of folks that can’t get enough of it. Doujinshi is often popular for parody material, where characters from TV shows, video games and anime series get put into the raunchy hentai comics for you to jerk off over. I think most weeaboos already know what the purpose of /r/Doujinshi is, so it’s probably best for me to just go ahead here and tell you about whether or not it’s any good. Objective metrics on Doujinshi

I’ve always had a passion for objective number analysis, so Mr. Porn Geek is going to start here by doing you a favor and addressing the flat characteristics about Doujinshi that you’ll find from running the data. To start with, I’d like to point out that /r/Doujinshi was created all the way back in March of 2010 – this makes it one of the oldest communities around for NSFW material. I was really pleased to see that the guy behind it – Liru – is still active and runes the community – that’s a lot of dedication! The final objective metric I want to cover is the rate of new submissions, which we’ll be able to work out by sorting all of the material here chronologically. Sadly, Doujinshi has only received 25 posts in the last 10 days – a big disappointment given just how popular this type of material is and how active other hentai communities are out there on Reddit.

Trying the material on /r/Doujinshi

To get a taste for the shared material here, Mr. Porn Geek is going to look at the highest rated links posted in the last year – this will show us what most folks enjoy at /r/Doujinshi and what you can expect to find if you visit. Quick note: if you’d like to follow along from home, follow this link and you’ll be shown the best of the best from the last year on this particular subreddit. You’ll find that a lot of the most popular artists out there are covered at /r/Doujinshi, including the likes of Nakani, Fue, Bowieknife and Jorori. The links will take you through to embeds at Imgur which have all of the material in almost all cases – pretty decent. I didn’t mind the doujinshi, but I think most of it is real high quality anyway, so I’m not really judging much here – this is what the people want!

My final thoughts on Reddit’s Doujinshi community

I was really disappointed that so few links are posted here, but I think the biggest issue facing this subreddit is the fact that most people into hentai comics don’t want to digest it this way. I’ve said in plenty of my hentai website reviews that the folks who deal in doujinshi always take their sharing of material up a notch – those websites are fantastic. Reddit is never going to compete with a place like Simply Hentai, so what’s the point in trying? Anyway – Mr. Porn Geek thinks this is still a nice spot, but probably not going to have you mesmerized any time soon. Cheers for reading and happy squeezing, you weeaboo geek!
