Simply Mindy in Hell – Gameplay

Right of the bat, I get hit with a pleasant surprise. It’s a pixelated game! I love pixelated games, and they always focus on creating a great story and atmosphere, as well as a killer soundtrack to boot. I still remember playing Metal Slug as a kid and spending hours upon hours of staring at the TV and getting my fix. The game starts out with us, choosing how our character will be in the game. The chick looks a bit like a zombie, with that greenish-gray type of skin. We have several attributes to add points to for our character but make sure to spend them wisely as the points are quite limited.

The game introduces us to Mindy, a chick who is talking to the devil. She has no idea how she’s gotten there or why. Devil tells her that her memory has been erased and everything she knew is gone, including the ability to swear. Don’t worry, Mindy picks it up quickly, just by listening to her host’s juicy vocabulary. An added bonus of games such as this one is the amount of work put into small details that make the gameplay such a great experience. Mindy and the devil start off in a purgatory-type location and quickly make it to hell, where the devil introduces her to her future, as well as all kinds of degrading tasks she will have to perform to make it there.

You see, the devil has lost all of Mindy’s files, including the information about her birth and eventual death. At the beginning of the game, we are told that Mindy died in a house fire but have no idea why the devil decided it was her time and she had to go that way. Finally, the devil takes Mindy to meet her landlord and explains to her that she will have to hustle hard to stay off the streets and keep this place. I’ll stop right here though, the rest you will have to figure out yourself. After all, I don’t want to spoil your fun.

This one really made my day! It is like getting that morning wood, and you are just so happy it is there. I seriously dig the characters and the storyline, which are both top-notch. The game is blessed with a great clean design and the gameplay that truly shines. No boring filler details or terrible game mechanics that ruin the experience. It gets to the point quickly and hours spent playing it are just a blast. During the gameplay, you’ll discover things you didn’t expect, and yet they make the gameplay even more fulfilling. Simply a must-play!
